Hello!
In a recent inquiryTAS-SSAI had a question about.
During the discussion, some people expressed a desire for more detailed information, so I will now provide a detailed explanation.
This TAS-SSA is what is commonly known as a standalone tone arm stand.
Normally, the tone arm is installed on the player board of the record player by drilling the base holes using an arm template.
①Many record players come with their own tone arms installed from the start.
②The tone arm is not included, and the base hole is already drilled from the beginning.
There is also a pattern where you can use a replacement arm base for the tone arm you want to use.
③There are also types that can be set at the appropriate distance using an attachment that connects to the turntable.
In case ①, replacing the tone arm is not considered.
If a customer finds a tonearm they want to use, there is no way to install it.
In case ②, it is standard to install one tone arm. Even if you want to install a second one, there is not enough space on the player board.
In the case of ③, you can just purchase an additional attachment,
Installation can be difficult if you don't have an attachment for the tonearm you want to use.
(There is no problem as long as the attachment itself is movable and can be kept at an appropriate distance.)
In addition, tone arms are often manufactured with the goal of optimally playing their own cartridges.
I think there are many customers who own multiple tone arms because they all have different compatibility.
In that case, there are physical limitations to placement...usually the most you can do is place one on the right side of the record player and one above it.
The TAS-SSA that we will explain today can solve all of the above problems!
The TAS-SSA is an independent tone arm stand, so if you connect a tone arm to the TAS-SSA,
After that, you can use the template to place it anywhere you like in 360 degrees.
(However, since a regular record player is rectangular, the board will get in the way of the bottom right corner and you won't be able to set it up.)
Instead of placing it "on" the record player, it is placed "outside" the record player.
You can place the template anywhere you like as long as it's within reach.
Now, let's take a closer look at the contents of TAS-SSA.
TAS-SSAIt is made of three parts.
・The base plate has an opening for attaching the top arm.
This item is made of stainless steel, which is rust-resistant, highly rigid, and non-magnetic.
The hole diameter can be selected from 31φ and 41φ.
If the arm base you are using is a standard turntable, it will be 31mm in diameter.
If you are using IT-VTA-06, we recommend selecting 41φ.
IKEDA Sound Labs. tone arm
Whether it's a rotating table or IT-VTA-06, it is secured by tightening a large nut from below.
If the material is soft, the supporting foundation may shake.
As mentioned above, the base plate is made of stainless steel.
High rigidity allows you to tighten with confidence.
・The black part in the middle is the base body
Unlike the upper and lower parts, this is made of aluminum alloy.
Some of you may be thinking, "Wouldn't it be better to use stainless steel here as well to unify the design?"
There are two main points to make.
The first is its excellent processability.
When ordering the TAS-SSA, you can choose the total length between 80mm and 103mm.
In that case, we will adjust the dimensions by shaving the base itself.
The initial length is fixed, but if you order a full order, you can make this part larger and longer.
We can also accept orders outside of this range to a certain extent.
The second role is to suppress resonance.
When you make something using the same metal, resonance occurs at the same level, for better or worse.
By combining mechanically different metals, the effects of unwanted resonance can be suppressed.
Additionally, aluminum alloys can be anodized, so we have given them a black finish.
Anodizing improves corrosion resistance, surface hardness, insulation, etc.
The design has been carefully considered for the areas that are most likely to be touched by the hands.
- The base that supports the top two bottom units and from which the output cable comes out
Like the top, this is also made of stainless steel.
The inner diameter is large enough to allow the cable to pass through without any strain, so it is dense and rigid.
It weighs about 3.15 kg. It may not seem that heavy when you look at the numbers.
When you actually hold it in your hand, you can feel its weight, which is much heavier than the numbers suggest.
This heavy weight proves that it fully fulfills its role as an independent tone arm base.
This has gotten quite long, so I'll end my explanation here for now.
In the next part, we will actuallyTAS-SSAToIT-345CR1I would like to explain the installation process using photos.

Hello!
I received a question about the TAS-SSA the other day.
During the conversation, I was asked if I wanted more detailed information, so I will explain it in detail today.
This TAS-SSA is what is commonly known as a stand-alone tonearm stand.
Normally, the tonearm is installed on the player board of the record player by drilling a base hole using an arm template. For this reason
①Many record players come with their own tonearm installed from the beginning.
②There are also patterns where the tonearm is not included, and the base hole is already drilled from the beginning,
and a replacement arm base for the tonearm you want to use is used to install it there.
③There are also types that use an attachment that connects to the turntable to set it at the appropriate distance.
In the case of ①, the replacement of the tone arm is not taken into consideration, so if the customer finds a tone arm they want to use, there is no way to install it.
In the case of ②, it is usually basic to install one tone arm. Even if you want to install a second one, there is no space on the player board.
In the case of ③, it is okay to purchase an additional attachment, but it may be difficult to install if you do not have an attachment for the tone arm you want to use.
(There is no problem if the attachment itself is movable and can be kept at an appropriate distance.)
Also, tone arms are often manufactured with the goal of optimally playing the company's own cartridges, and I think there are many customers who own multiple tone arms from the perspective of compatibility.
In that case, there are physical limitations to installation...Usually, the limit is one to the right of the record player and one on the upper side.
The TAS-SSA, which we will explain today, can solve all of the above problems!
The TAS-SSA is an independent tone arm stand, so once you connect a tone arm to it,
you can then use the template to place it anywhere you like in 360 degrees.
(However, since a normal record player is rectangular, the board will probably get in the way and you won't be able to set it up at the bottom right.)
Since it is placed "outside" the record player, rather than "on top" of the record player,
you can place it anywhere you like as long as the template can reach it.
Now, let's take a more detailed look at what's inside the TAS-SSA.
The TAS-SSA is made of three parts.
- The base plate is the opening where the top arm is attached.
This material is stainless steel. It is resistant to rust and has high rigidity. It is also characterized by not being magnetic.
The hole diameter can be chosen from 31φ and 41φ,
so if the arm base you are using is a normal turntable, choose 31φ.
If you are using IT-VTA-06, we recommend choosing 41φ.
IKEDA Sound Labs. tonearms, whether they are turntables or IT-VTA-06, are fixed from below with a large nut,
so if the material is soft, the supporting foundation may shake,
but as mentioned above, the base plate is made of stainless steel,
so you can tighten it with confidence due to its high rigidity.
・The black part in the middle is the base body.
This is made of aluminum alloy, unlike the upper and lower parts.
Some people may think that it would be better to unify this part by making it stainless steel, but
There are two main points.
The first is that it is easy to process.
When placing an order for this TAS-SSA, you can order the total length between 80mm and 103mm.
In that case, we will adjust the dimensions by cutting this base body.
The initial total length is fixed, but if you make a full order, we can make this part larger and longer vertically to accommodate orders outside of that range to a certain extent.
The second role is to suppress resonance.
When making a single item out of the same metal, resonance will occur at the same level, for better or worse.
By combining metals that are mechanically different, it is possible to suppress the effects of unnecessary resonance.
In addition, aluminum alloy can be anodized, so we have finished it in black.
The anodizing process is designed to improve corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and insulation,
with consideration given to the areas that are most likely to come into contact with the hands.
・The base that supports the top two at the bottom and from which the output cable comes out
This is also made of stainless steel, just like the top.
The inner diameter is just enough for the cable to pass through without any strain, so it is dense and rigid.
It weighs about 3.15kg. It may not seem that heavy when you look at the numbers, but when you actually hold it in your hand, you can feel its weight even more than the numbers suggest, and this heavy weight proves that it fulfills its role as an independent tone arm base.
This has gotten long, so I'll end the explanation here for now.
In the second part, which I will introduce next time, I would like to explain the process of actually attaching the IT-345CR1 to the TAS-SSA using photos.
